Letter 1911, March 11, New York City to Mr. Edwin Markham, Staten Island / New York American. 1910.

They inform Mr. Markham that they have received the trade proposition, from Harper & Bros., which he forwarded to them. Also they have his notes to the L.C. Page books and the price correction to one of their books recently reviewed. They presume that the error was in the composing room not Mr. Markham's. They hope that they will have room fit it on the Book Page this week.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
